I was raised in a staunch Republican family. As a very young girl I read volumes on history, novels based on historic figures, and loved learning about the birth of our country. My first introduction to politics and our election process was during the 1952 election cycle. At the age of 14 I had the …

What Was That Thing Last Night?
I was in a speech club in high school that included our debate team. I know what a debate sounds like, and it sure as heck does not sound like last night! You can learn a lot from musical comedy. The following is from Chicago , the song is "Class": Whatever happened to fair dealing? And …
Strong Women, Oh My?!
Who knew? Kamala Harris has warmth! Wasn't she just a cold, hard District Attorney turned Senator? Well, people, I knew. Granted, as a Californian I was closer to the source, but she first burst into my awareness as a Senator interrogating cabinet members on the hot seat. After watching her brilliant questioning, her total command …
A Little Bit Racist
This segment is dealing with bigotry, racism, and cultural prejudice. All of those feelings generally emanate from a dislike, or fear of the "other", although as shown later there is also the element of simply crossing the norm and appearing "out of place". My True Confession

Mr. Gladwell responded that he was asking the wrong question. He went on to explain that you have to …
The Color Blue
Once upon a time there was a little girl not lost. Taking a bus back to grandma's house in Seattle, she went into her typical daydream, scatterbrained persona and missed the stop. Arriving finally at the bus station, the child knew it was just a matter of getting on the next bus to 65th street …
My Country, ‘Tis of “Me”?
What is it about the human condition that makes so many of us unwilling to share? It shows up in small ways, "I don't want to pay taxes so old people can stay healthy", "I don't want to pay more for my health insurance (pennies) so women can have birth control medication", or "I refuse to use public transportation like my grandparents did, even to save the planet." Throughout history, in almost every country, it has evinced itself in wars, revolts, genocide, slavery, or a combination of the above.
